In short: in the UAE, a brand is protected mainly by registering it as a trademark with the Ministry of Economy under Federal Decree-Law No. 36 of 2021. How Trademark Registration Works in the UAE
- Search. We check existing registrations and applications for similar marks in your classes.
- Class selection. Protection is granted per class of goods or services, so choosing the classes is a commercial decision.
- Filing. The application is filed with the Ministry of Economy.
- Examination and publication. If accepted, the mark is published so third parties can oppose it.
- Registration. If there is no opposition, the certificate is issued. The mark can then be recorded with customs to stop counterfeit goods at the border.
